"We moved to New Mexico in 1977, but I didn't become a New Mexican until 1978. Being from the 'green' East Coast, the first year here was extremely shocking. Then one morning watching the sunrise, I realized and knew I was 'Home.' Being New Mexican is a gift, which, despite the many, many challenges we face in this state, I don't believe a majority of our residents realize. We need to return to the time where we cared about each other. A time when it wasn't the "Me First" attitude that is prevalent today whether it is at the individual, community, cultural or race level. The hate that is so dominant in our state and country must be addressed."
